BACKGROUND
Observers
on the political scene have been quoted as saying that the government's
bid for industrialization is not matched by educational strategies
that would deliver the skilled work force needed in industry. This
triggered immediate actions from all sectors to try and meet the
demands of the rapidly evolving technological scenario. What was
specified was constant meeting of minds between the academe and
industry so that the needs on both sides can be clearly articulated
and met. The academe would then be able to produce quality graduates
needed in business and industry. The latter on the other hand, can
help fill the needs of academe such as OJT Programs for students,
faculty enhancement, professional chairs and other forms of assistance.
In response, on April 24,1997, on the initiative of Fairchild
Semiconductor formerly National Semiconductor Cebu (NSCB), a meeting
was convened in its plant site among representatives of leading
educational institutions in the Visayas And Mindanao, business
and Numerous suggestions and recommendations were solicited and
were aptly considered. It was the beginning of an organizational
structuring.
As
a result of the initial meeting, the group was consequently formed
and formally called the "Tri-Sectoral Forum for technology Excellence"
(TRI-TECH). As 15-man Board of Directors was elected and several
committees were created to promote the ideals and initiatives
of the forum and implement its program and projects.
TRI-TECH
continues to be very active in the area of technical-vocational
and engineering curriculum enhancement. The last two years have
been hectic for the organization, with several consultation and
curriculum review for a conducted under its DOST-financed projects.
Other non-government groups have agreed to link with it in order
to hasten their common objectives and programs. It likewise, sponsors
training on Statiscal Process Control (SPC), Project Management,
Technical Skills Development, Management and Safety and facilitated
by its members.
The
organization has opened many doors for the three sectors. Today,
the industry academe and government have finally found the mutual
means to co-venture and achieve . . . TRI-TECH.
